Driver Update For Speedstream 4100 Interface
4100 OptsNewbie in need of suggestions for SpeedStream 4100settings. The system has a straight connection to the modem, no router, wall jack to line filter to modem to pc, and no other machines. The pic shows the defaults.Any suggestions would be helpful, but mostly interested inthese settings:Connection type, Connection Timeout, DHCP Lease, the public/private IP address setting, andthe PPP Location (text below).AdvancedPPP Location(radio button options)(default) PPP is on the modem. This is the normal mode for this modem when connected to a single computer. In this mode, the PPP session is initiated from the modem.Gateways and routers should work in this mode but their configuration may have to be changed to do so (e.g., you may need to have the gateway/router IP address changed to 192.168.1.1).PPP is on the computer. This mode is normally used if you need to run a PPPoE client on your PC. This mode can be used with a gateway or router which initiates a PPPoE session.
To return to the DSL modem user interface you will need to directly connect your PC to the modem without any gateway or router between the modem and the PC.Bridged Mode (PPPoE is not used). This mode must be usedif you are connecting to a non-PPPoE network. Selecting this mode will cause the modem to automatically restart. SBC tech mentioned to me to use 192.168.1.64 as ip.Does it make a difference? And also gave me some dns numbers but connection seems to work with them.During manual registration, I got to a page that said I needed in 'Important update to my SBC Yahoo DSL modem', and gave a certificate to accept or not.
Speedstream 4100 Dsl Modem Manual
I went ahead and accepted it, and now I have a 'Yahoo Install Manager' in Add/Remove Programs. This seems to have come from a file named yinst.cab which contains two files, yinsthelper.dll and yinst.inf.
I had copied my modems technical output, and this yinst thing did not update firmware, driver, anything else on the modem. The yinsthelper.dll did not get copied (at least not by that name) and is nowhere on the machine. Any idea what this was for, and safe to uninstall?
Hello,I dont think you need any drivers for the router. Its a Ethernet modem and you can configure the same and get your connection.Actually you will not find it on Siemens driver website because according to Siemens: The 4100 Ethernet model works with any Ethernet equipped PC, regardless of operating system.Just ipconfig in command prompt and you will get the default gateway and you can actually get the config page to configure the same.If you need further help let me know will mail you the manualRegards.
